U3/U6 Subway Closure: Sendlinger Tor to Implerstraße modernization

Published on:

The critical Munich subway artery spanning Sendlinger Tor and Implerstraße has entered a complete service disruption phase. From May 18 to September 18, 2026, Goetheplatz and Poccistraße stations are undergoing massive structural repair, fire protection upgrades, and barrier-free accessibility installation.

Structural Renovation and Access Progress

Operating teams are working round-the-clock inside the closed tunnels to resolve concrete deterioration and install new security grids. No trains are running on this U-Bahn segment. Heavy-duty rail replacement bus service (Schienenersatzverkehr or SEV) is operating with increased frequency to absorb the daily commuter volume of thousands of passengers.

Transit planners recommend utilizing alternative tram lines and the S-Bahn trunk lines to bypass the inner-city bottleneck, as transit delays of up to 15 minutes are common during morning and afternoon peaks.
