Deutsche Bahn and local Munich municipal engineers have initiated platform ceiling cladding removals within both U4 and U5 tunnels at Karlsplatz (Stachus) subway station.

Crucial S-Bahn Second Trunk Line Integration

To build the monumental second S-Bahn main line, structural engineers require precise geological and concrete measurements from the overlying Stachus tunnels. Removing the platform cladding exposes the bare concrete substrate, allowing high-precision laser scans and ultrasonic testing of the station’s load-bearing deck.

To ensure minimal disruption to the heavy daily flow of commuters, all demolition, scanning, and structural monitoring are restricted to late-night non-operating windows. This structural survey will proceed continuously through late 2026.
