German Aerospace Center in Munich Opens Next-Gen Propulsion Lab
The DLR aerospace facility near Munich has launched a state-of-the-art laboratory dedicated to testing next-generation electro-thermal thrusters. Utilizing advanced high-temperature superconducting materials, the laboratory will conduct high-fidelity simulated test flights for deep-space science probes. Collaborative research teams from the Technical University of Munich will access the open-access hardware lab to test lightweight propellant systems.
Advanced Thruster Simulation
The new laboratory features high-vacuum chambers capable of replicating the exact pressure and thermal conditions of deep interplanetary space. By utilizing high-temperature superconductors inside magnetic confinement thruster nozzles, scientists can achieve double the fuel efficiency of existing electric propulsion models.
